During 2009, AETOS actively participated in the ITA World Tunnel Congress, held in Budapest. (WTC2009)

Mr. Pablo Bueno, a member of the Board of Directors, took part at the request of the ITA’s Organising Committee, presenting an article as a speech on the tunnels on Madrid’s M-30 ring road. He was personally congratulated on the excellence of his delivery by the ITA’s President, Mr. Martin Knights and M. Pier Giorgio Grasso, a member of the ITA Executive Council.

The ITA’s welcome reception served to contrast voting intentions in the General Assembly of the different West European Tunnel Associations. The majority position was to prefer the candidacy of Thailand over China for the 2012 World Congress due to China’s insistence on holding the Congress in a modern city, without direct air communication with Europe. The Chinese candidacy was overwhelmingly rejected in the General Assembly.

Working Group no. 2, “Research” met on two afternoons, with its Spanish representative attending. AETOS was present in the oral presentations by Spanish speakers, which were excellently attended, and the session on underground urban development.
